Hotspot

A Hotspot is a type of event you can add to an Immersive training experience in Strivr Creator. Hotspots are invisible areas that track how long a learner looked at them. Hotspots are used for data collection only and are completely invisible to learners during an Experience. For example, your Experience might include an important point of interest and you want to measure whether or not learners are distracted by other areas during the Experience.

When should I use a Hotspot?

Use a Hotspot when you want to analyze learner gaze patterns and if you want to measure where learners are looking and for how long. Hotspots work in both looping and non-looping clips (note that if you add Hotspot to a looping clip, it is in effect for the duration of that clip.)

You may also choose to add Hotspots to Scene Hunt Marker areas to determine whether a learner saw an object or location but did not recognize it as a point of interest. This enables Blind Spot immersive analytics.

How to add a Hotspot

  1. In the Tree view, select a video to which you would like to add a Hotspot.

  2. In the Event bar at the top of the screen. click the Hotspot icon.

  3. A new Hotspot event will appear in the Tree view.

  4. Select a location in the video preview to place the Hotspot.

  5. Double-click the new Hotspot event in the Tree view and rename it.

How to edit the properties of a Hotspot

Select a Hotspot event in the Tree view and its properties appear in the properties panel on the right.

Start and End Time

Enter the times from the start of the clip the Hotspot should begin and end. This setting is available only for Hotspots in non-looping clips.

Minimum Fixation Time

In most cases you should leave this field blank.

This value is used qualitatively in Strivr analytics (looked/did not look at the Hotspot for the minimum fixation time) and does not affect in-headset learner experience. If your Hotspot use case requires something other than default analytics, enter the time in seconds that the learner should look at the Hotspot.

Position

To move a Hotspot quickly, just click and drag it to the new location in the video preview.

You can also specify exact coordinates for the Hotspot.

Size

The size of a Hotspot determines the extents of the area that counts as being looked at when it is within the learner's field of view.

How to delete a Hotspot

  1. Select a Hotspot event in the Tree view (it will be highlighted.)

  2. Right-click it and select Delete.
